- Relaxxation, on 11/18/2008, -3/+86Looks like a good upgrade imo.
- thewuse, on 11/19/2008, -9/+4Agreed says i.
- jbird123, on 11/19/2008, -4/+5Just updated (decided to wait for official release). Its nice, nothing wrong with it but I think they should have kept the old dash with blades and just added the new features
- bionicvskungfu, on 11/19/2008, -1/+86"The 8-people party system lets you basically chat with all your friends no matter where you are in any game, and then be able to drag each one through games with you."
2 person private chat just isn't enough.- Sornos, on 11/19/2008, -1/+36It's about time. It was a total pain in the ass jumping between privates chats to organize stuff. I felt like a secretary, always putting people on hold.
- mikebb79, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1wow, must be hard being that popular.
- OomikyoO, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4Some of my friends don't have all the same games as i do. So it will be nice to be able to talk to them while i play CoD: waw and they play halo.
- Ev3nt372, on 11/19/2008, -3/+3For the love of all that is unholy please don't ***** up multi-chat! The rest of the UI can be a giant flaming turd sandwich for all I care.

- Sh0rtstak, on 11/19/2008, -1/+40pretty excited for this. I just hope there wont be too much downtime in the next few days
- bunk3rk1ng, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Even though I hope Live doesn't go down. Any time the servers have been hit with a lot of traffic (Christmas) LIVE always seems to go down. I've actually been thinking about what single player game to play to pass the time tomorrow through the weekend. Just in case.
- ShugNinx21, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2"Any time the servers have been hit with a lot of traffic (Christmas) LIVE always seems to go down."
Ummm.... last Christmas was the first time in the 5 years that xbox went live where there were substantial outages for that week.
I know it was a pain in the ass and it sucked, but the live network going down due to overload only happened that once, unlike every Christmas as you seem to imply. - bunk3rk1ng, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3I dunno, Christmas was the last major one. I was just thinking about recently they have been releasing a lot of small updates to gear up for the NXE and live seems to go down for a couple hours. Nothing major. I was just hoping this update would NOT be another Christmas. That is a lot of content to roll out at once to everyone using LIVE. I just got the update fine though :)
Only problem so far has been Netflix. Their activation servers are not working right now if you want to sign up for their online streaming service.
Also playing music from a USB hard drive while in game is taking forever. It takes at least 5 minutes to load the songs once I choose the music folder I want to listen to. It works fine when in the dashboard though. Kind of weird. - PedleZelnip, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Well upon installing the update I now periodically get lockups of about 20 seconds or so while browsing my friends list as it waits for XBL to respond. So I'm guessing that yes, there will be growing pains over the next few weeks.
- ShugNinx21, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2"Any time the servers have been hit with a lot of traffic (Christmas) LIVE always seems to go down."

- thegamingguy, on 11/19/2008, -1/+17It is a for sure upgrade. I have enjoyed it so far, can't wait to get my friends in the party system too. Not having the blades get in the way anymore is the biggest upgrade. So many times I would be slow at the start of a multiplayer game because I would be sending a message in between and get stuck in that menu system. Plus I like that they can update more often rather than just spring/fall massive updates.
I just submitted the intro video too if anyone cares to see it.
http://digg.com/xbox/New_Xbox_Experience_Intro_Vid ...- Tolzmaniac, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2pressing the guide button automatically closes the blades, you know
- CrimsonBlur, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1Well that doesn't really matter anymore now does it? ;)
- xxMarka, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1you have the NXE already?
i just turned on my box, and it didn't update =[- Elranzer, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1There was a beta program.
- Tolzmaniac, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2pressing the guide button automatically closes the blades, you know
- abajaj2280, on 11/19/2008, -1/+23Holy *****, i've played CTRL ZEE.
I cant wait for the update, but at the same time, i really love the current dashboard... I'm happy as long as everything can be found with ease and my avatar doesn't come out like an ugly Wii character. - Jakerzon, on 11/19/2008, -2/+12They had better get this so I can put it on a CD.
- Sornos, on 11/19/2008, -1/+10Unless I'm mistaken you can just hook up a the internet via the ethernet port in the back and download it without having Gold Live. It's free for all members if you have a broadband connection hooked up. That shouldn't be too hard to set up.
- byronm, on 11/19/2008, -2/+10Not to mention new games released after update will also update your console.
- Shaderone, on 11/19/2008, -2/+6Not to mention that a downloadable copy that can be either put on a CD or a flash drive will likely be available on the xbox.com website.
- xxMarka, on 11/19/2008, -12/+6Not to mention that I have two dicks.
- korvan504521, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4we'd rather you didn't mention that actually.
- snoogit, on 11/19/2008, -2/+14xxMarka: in your mouth?
- FFXIfrohike, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2You should probably consider hooking up your 360 to the internet at least a couple of times a year. You just need a long ethernet cord or, if your computer is close to your console, consider setting up a wireless bridge.
- Jakerzon, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I'm banned and can't get on live. That's why it would be nice if they offer it on their site like Shaderone mentioned.
- snoogit, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1rent a game that comes out next year, it should be on the disc.
- Sornos, on 11/19/2008, -1/+10Unless I'm mistaken you can just hook up a the internet via the ethernet port in the back and download it without having Gold Live. It's free for all members if you have a broadband connection hooked up. That shouldn't be too hard to set up.
- rednaxela825, on 11/19/2008, -16/+411. You can't go back.
- bsonline, on 11/19/2008, -2/+712. You have to go forward. Or stay offline.
- Seann7656, on 11/19/2008, -2/+10You must be one of those weirdos that hates anything new
- theaceoffire, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2He might have the core version I guess...
- rednaxela825, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Wow I wasn't expecting to be buried. I was looking forward to the update. I just said that because there were a lot of people that didn't want the update.
- eadnams, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Ah, the stupid "New Facebook" whiners all over again :P
- ArcadeJunkies, on 11/19/2008, -3/+29Soooo, what TIME does it actually go live?
- bsonline, on 11/19/2008, -2/+6Dugg for saying it for me.

- AwwSchucks, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3I read somewhere 5 am eastern...cant confirm tho
- bakshi, on 11/19/2008, -3/+25 AM? And to think I stayed up until 12 tonight thinking it would be released only to find out it's going live right when I'm going to work!
- willdelaney, on 11/19/2008, -2/+5This is where living in CA comes in handy.
PST all the way baby- Elranzer, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3NY: we're ahead of you
- remyD, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1Pretty much everything on marketplace 'goes live' at 5 in the morning, eastern time, updates, too.
- icarussmicarus, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1They are going to "start deploying" the update at 2:00 AM Seattle time. To get your local time, go here: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.ht ... It may take up to a few hours for some people to get the update.
This information came from Major Nelson's Twitter updates.
- bsonline, on 11/19/2008, -2/+6Dugg for saying it for me.
- Phillycat81, on 11/19/2008, -1/+9I got mine last night.
Game installs kick ass. No more loud ass dvd drive. - Einchy, on 11/19/2008, -1/+7Been using it since last week. It's so awesome. :D
- xxMarka, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1How?
- Shaflugi, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4Beta
- xxMarka, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1How?
- teotbote, on 11/19/2008, -18/+3Xbox isn't just an experience... it's a goddamned religious epiphany. Where else can you get a computer on your television? I mean.. come on!
- Nick22, on 11/19/2008, -2/+20pretty much anywhere. its a simple matter to hook up your PC to your TV
- teotbote, on 11/19/2008, -4/+3well that was the obvious inference to be gleaned from my comment, but i suppose not everyone is as bright as you.
- zealotbleeds, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Why even leave your room?
- Nick22, on 11/19/2008, -2/+20pretty much anywhere. its a simple matter to hook up your PC to your TV
- RgyaGramShad, on 11/19/2008, -15/+6I can tell that this is going to cause more complaints than the new facebook did.
people hate change. - scoottie, on 11/19/2008, -3/+26#6b) http://www.digg.com/movies/Sony_Pictures_celebrate ...
- jer21, on 11/19/2008, -4/+4That's kinda childish...
- MrFisty, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4It's also kinda a Columbia Pictures licensing issue...
- Tahiri, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2Considering MS put in their netflix agreement that they can't allow Sony to do it, it was justified.
- BrendanJB, on 11/19/2008, -19/+14Has it stopped overheating in to a ***** of red rings?
Thats an new experience I'd like to have.- mediahaze, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2You just got buried for asking a question! Lame.
Yea - RROD has not been an issue for systems built in over a year now. - BrendanJB, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Really? I heard that the problem was still there, but that a new SKU being released early next year would completely fix the problem.
I'll have to check it out a little more I guess.
Cheers
p.s. I don't mind being buried, there is always going to be people who don't agree with what you say; but what can you do? *shrugs*
- mediahaze, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2You just got buried for asking a question! Lame.
- zoziw, on 11/19/2008, -15/+8My "New Xbox Experience" starts in two weeks when I get a refurbished unit back due to a RROD...actually, I guess that won't technically be a "new" Xbox Experience.
- pradaaddict, on 11/19/2008, -3/+7anyone know if NXE will break Connect360 for Mac?
- kylef, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Damn, I didn't even think of that considering I use connect360 on a daily basis.
- kinseyincanada, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4it shouldnt considering its just a visual upgrade, streaming movies, etc.. should still work just fine.
- pikelet, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4It doesn't, I've had the preview for a week or so, and I'm not even on the latest version of Connect360.
- pradaaddict, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3thanks
- StevieG, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4Seems to actually load faster. Now if Connect360 could only be updated for better folder structure support I would be happy.
- sawula08, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2I'm not sure what pikelet's setup is, but Connect360 works for me. You just have to redownload the Optional Media Update that lets you have AAC/MP4 playback. Then it works just fine.
- ezikiel2517, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1I had to redownload that codec patch but after that it actually works smoother.
- painting, on 11/19/2008, -15/+9now all it needs to do is be free.
- DiggDiggerson, on 11/19/2008, -5/+6It can't be free or else it will suck just like PS3's live system does. Cut the prices in half would be a plus though.
- Macintoshreader, on 11/19/2008, -2/+5Tell me a compelling reason as to why XBOX Live is better than PlayStation Network.
PlayStation Network is pretty much the same thing.
Btw, if I use the same reasoning as you, I can conclude that the Xbox 360 sucks and is a piece of ***** compared to the PS3 because it costs less.
FAIL!
- Macintoshreader, on 11/19/2008, -2/+5Tell me a compelling reason as to why XBOX Live is better than PlayStation Network.
- HigherLogic, on 11/19/2008, -4/+4Most things in life that are free suck. There's a reason you have to pay for things. The extremely cheap cost of a Live subscription (what is it like $3.27/month or something) is NOT expensive. It allows them to continue to offer a great network and infrastructure and develop features like this. When it's free, you really do get what you pay for, e.g. PS3's live system.
- WhereAmI, on 11/19/2008, -2/+3You idiots keep trying to justify your 50$ a year for what is a worse service since many PS3 games use dedicated servers rather than the ***** P2P network that most of Live uses. Its funny how you actually have to pay for that and have ads.
- HigherLogic, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1I don't need to justify paying $38.99 ($2.99/month) for 13 months of service. And don't even pretend that the PS3 service and network of players is that great, because it's not. There's other features besides online gaming as well that you simply don't have. Point is, you get what you pay for, and it's pretty obvious why.
- NiceGuyVan, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2"And don't even pretend that the PS3 service and network of players is that great, because it's not."
Actually it is. It does 99% of what Live does plus things it doesn't. Quit trying to justify paying for what we get for free
- Shaflugi, on 11/19/2008, -5/+5Not being free isn't a big deal when it's only 50 bucks a year. I don't personally have a Gold account (I don't play enough online 360 games for that, I use my PC for my network gaming), but from when I DID have a gold account, it was a really nice experience. You wouldn't get that if it were free.
- Tahiri, on 11/19/2008, -3/+4$50 is a whole game.
"You wouldn't get that if it were free."
I get the same thing on PS3 for free - HigherLogic, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1It's actually $40/year for 13 months, or $2.99/month. Not a hefty price to pay for the service and features you get.
- Tahiri, on 11/19/2008, -3/+4$50 is a whole game.
- DiggDiggerson, on 11/19/2008, -5/+6It can't be free or else it will suck just like PS3's live system does. Cut the prices in half would be a plus though.
- DavidTurnbull, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2I got access with the second wave of preview access emails.
Quite awesome if I do say so myself. - LastDitchHero, on 11/19/2008, -1/+258 person chat, about time, now I don't have to listen to 10 yr old kids whose parents think Mountain Dew and Xbox 360 should be a babysitter.
- djpray2k, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5Zing!
- Mclfln, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1AMEN!
- badogg, on 11/19/2008, -2/+19I love the idea of a new interface and I think a lot of the features are going to be good for the console as a whole. The one thing that I am not too thrilled about is the advertisements. If I read the article correctly, there is going to be more ads? Or maybe the placement of them is going to be more strategically placed so you mistakenly select them and they hope you will get interested after the mistaken select of it? Regardless the advertisements in anything that I pay for is really irritating. I can see putting ads in the silver accounts that are the free live accounts which are pretty much useless anyways, but I feel that if I am paying for something then that should allow me to use the services without all the ads being shoved down my throat. Same goes when I go to the movies. It really pisses me off that right before the previews I have to sit and watch the damn coca-cola ads or the car ads and all that crap. I can't wait for them to put a DVR at the movies so I can skip that ***** there too.
Alright, I kind of went on a rant there. All in all I am looking forward to the new update.- lane.montgomery, on 11/19/2008, -2/+3Just to be clear, you can't stand the non-movie related ads, but the movie-related ads ("previews" you called them) are just fine with you?
You are playing a video game and you get video game ads. How is that different from getting movie ads at a movie theater?
I'm not saying the deceptive part of the ad placement isn't wrong, because it is wrong. I would just suggest that you pay a little more attention to what an ad really is, lest you be fooled by one.- Shaderone, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2It's the subway ads and car ads that get to me on the Xbox. The game and other 360-related ads sometimes have some decent links.
- badogg, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Thats right, I like to see relevant content. I enjoy the previews for the movies as it gives me a preview of what movies are coming up. I don't drink soda, and I'm not sitting in a coca-cola warehouse tour.
- kinseyincanada, on 11/19/2008, -2/+3you mean like when you buy a magazine and there are ads, or watch tv there are ads, or go to a website there are ads, or walk outside there are ads. Ads are everywhere i dont understand why people get all riled up when there on the 360 , at least they are related to gaming,
- badogg, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4You made my point really. I am sick and tired of everything being an ad. At least take it out of something that I am paying for
- sinembarg0, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Windows doesn't have ads. This is more along the lines of windows having ads, and they just shouldn't be there, especially not on a subscription service. I still have a child account, so I don't have ads on the current dash, and hopefully I won't have ads on the new dash either. I just hope they fix it so I can download mature content: I set all my settings to allow all, but because it is a child account, I can't download mature stuff, I have to use a separate adult account. It wasn't like this until a couple months ago, Microsoft just made ***** choices.
- lane.montgomery, on 11/19/2008, -2/+3Just to be clear, you can't stand the non-movie related ads, but the movie-related ads ("previews" you called them) are just fine with you?
- bonk2k, on 11/19/2008, -3/+4Too bad I won't be seeing the dashboard too much, what with all the Left 4 Dead I've been playing. That game is awesome, you guys should all play it.
- vpshockwave, on 11/19/2008, -7/+4I don't see how people play L4D near as effectively on the 360. I understand tons of people like FPSs on the 360, but L4D is so fast paced I just don't get how people can keep up on thumbsticks.
- illustrick, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4you obviously suck at console games, cause its easy.
- Coffeedemon, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3I'll agree with you on some console FPSs but Valve has really done a good job with the controls on the 360. I was torn between the 360 and the PC version but since most of my friends have a 360, here I am. No matter how hectic the action has become so far I have no issue with the aiming or other controls. I think the overall simplicity of the game is a strength when considering console controls.
- bjs3171, on 11/19/2008, -2/+3does that mean it's more than just pointing and shooting? that's pretty much all it seemed to be in the few minutes of the demo i played.
- bonk2k, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1Oh yeah, there's a really big team aspect to it as well because the items, zombies, etc. are randomly placed every time so you have to stick together because you never know when a boomer will show up and vomit all over you, effectively alerting a huge horde of zombies. Not to mention the smokers, hunters, tanks, and witches. Oh god the witches...
Also there's a mode where you can play as the infected and try to stop the survivors (who are real people over xbox live)
- kylef, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1It doesn't get repetitive mowing down endless amounts of blood thirsty zombies with a large array of weapons?
- Kinsbane, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1After playing the demo, I have to agree. I will be getting it this weekend for sure.
- vpshockwave, on 11/19/2008, -7/+4I don't see how people play L4D near as effectively on the 360. I understand tons of people like FPSs on the 360, but L4D is so fast paced I just don't get how people can keep up on thumbsticks.
- somedudemanguy, on 11/19/2008, -7/+3i really feel like after this huge buildup, it's not really going to matter all that much.
- Seann7656, on 11/19/2008, -4/+2Is it coming out at exactly midnight? If so I'll stay up to see it!
Im off PST... - kinseyincanada, on 11/19/2008, -1/+23the only lame thing is now i want to get a 120GB hard drive so i can install all my games.
- kylef, on 11/19/2008, -1/+8But you still need the DVD in. Might shave off a few seconds of load time, but I dont know if its really worth the time and money to upgrade. Then again, my DVD drive is one loud ass *****...
- kinseyincanada, on 11/19/2008, -3/+3yea im only doing it to try and quit it down.
- CrimsonBlur, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6Yeah, I'm not worried much about the load times. The reason I love the install idea is that the DVD drive is freaking loud on the 360, to the point of distraction unless I have the volume way up.
Why was Sony able to make the PS3 almost completely silent and have the power brick in the system but the 360 with a separate power supply sounds like my computer tower at start-up ALL THE TIME. - Shaflugi, on 11/19/2008, -2/+13Because the 360 is a piece of junk that was rushed to market?
I love my 360, but that doesn't mean the hardware isn't a hunk of junk ;)
- inajeep, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1The 60gig is cheaper.
- kevyn, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4buying the right hard drive and installing it yourself is cheaper
- inajeep, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Absolutely true but also sadly not an available option. I'm hoping MS learns it's lesson for the next go around.
- smergs, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3@inajeep It's an option if you know how to do it. Requires getting the right hard drive and cracking open the case on an existing 20 gb drive. Search around the internet and it's not hard to find the instructions. Not sure I'd recommend doing it though. It might violate the terms and service of xbox live. I'll just pay for the overpriced 120 :(
- willdelaney, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1Mine just arrived from Amazon this afternoon for exactly that reason :)
$147 total with 2day shipping :)
Can't wait to dump some games onto it. - zealotbleeds, on 11/19/2008, -3/+2You don't have many games.
- willdelaney, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1what do you mean?
- kylef, on 11/19/2008, -1/+8But you still need the DVD in. Might shave off a few seconds of load time, but I dont know if its really worth the time and money to upgrade. Then again, my DVD drive is one loud ass *****...
- SergeantSavage, on 11/19/2008, -2/+5So i turned my xbox on 5 minutes past 12 and its not up... damnit i need my fix
- pradaaddict, on 11/19/2008, -1/+52am PST
- SergeantSavage, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4Booo!
- Shaderone, on 11/19/2008, -1/+15am EST
- CrimsonBlur, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1What? 2am PST are you sure? All of the other updates were 12:01am PST. Where'd you get that time, pradaaddict?
- pradaaddict, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1^ /v/ has been talking about it all day
- CrimsonBlur, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1What is /v/? Honestly I was searching tonight about the launch time just to make sure and I couldn't find it anywhere from a reliable source.

Straight from Major Nelson. - CrimsonBlur, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1Ah, thanks EvilCan! Damn those bastards...
- pradaaddict, on 11/19/2008, -1/+52am PST
- lazychris2000, on 11/19/2008, -10/+7buried for being wider than my 1024x786 display
- CalcProgrammer1, on 11/19/2008, -3/+19dugg for fitting easily on my 1680x1050 display
- igraham09, on 11/19/2008, -4/+9dugg down for bitching when you're using a 5-year-old resolution standard.
- eggsovereasy, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4I have 1920x1600, but I keep my browser window fairly narrow (easier to read short lines than long ones) and I too was frustrated.
- MentalBeaver, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6Isn't it 1024x768 (not 786) anyway? Just saying.
- bjs3171, on 11/19/2008, -3/+6thank god. the blade system is intuitive, but there's so many damn steps to do things like check your video library, and then go download a video. hopefully the new system will streamline things a little more.
- Tahiri, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3"but there's so many damn steps to do things like check your video library,"
That is the opposite of intuitive.
- Tahiri, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3"but there's so many damn steps to do things like check your video library,"
- drewh1991, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4Does anybody know where to get new clothes for your avatar?
- eaglejim2003, on 11/19/2008, -2/+7Walmart
- Firespray1138, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5The dashboard isn't too bad, I've had it for about 2 weeks now through that Preview program. Takes some getting used to but the only real important part to me is that it feels faster, pressing the guide button no longer takes ***** 5 minutes to load if you're in a game.
- Khast, on 11/19/2008, -4/+33IMHO if you pay for a service, it should not have ads....period.
Just imagine if they decided to do that put things on the desktop of the Windows operating system, how many of you would be pissed about that?- s3rgi0, on 11/19/2008, -0/+8Bloatware?
- Unrealevil, on 11/19/2008, -2/+7And on top of that, the whole thing is probably not optional *because* of the ads.
- Shaderone, on 11/19/2008, -5/+4Imagine! An OS with the nerve to put at least 20 programs on a clean install!
(I do agree about the ads, though) - skankme, on 11/19/2008, -2/+17Eh - I pay for magazines... they have ads. I pay for cable, the channels still have ads.
- xxMarka, on 11/19/2008, -2/+7They use ads to keep themselves going though, Microsoft does not need ads to keep Xbox Live Gold going.
At ALL.
The subscriptions pay for more than enough, I'd imagine. - lotrtrotk, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5But you pay your cable company for your TV service.
You don't pay the network, who are the ones who run the ads.
Most of the money made by a TV network is from ads.
without them they would charge the cable companies through the roof
which in turn means the cable company charges YOU through the roof.
Would you want to pay $1500/month for ad-free cable?
Xbox Live is different, because (I would guess) it could sustain itself purely with the subscriptions. - KSUdesigner, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2If I could afford 1500 a month for ad-free cable, absolutely yes I would.
- smergs, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1I agree with the people comparing this to cable tv, magazines, etc... To me it's the same thing. The ad's don't bother me at all. They are very easy to bypass. Unlike live tv where you have to wait for commercials. I think Microsoft has an excellent business strategy. I want them to profit. If they profit then that will(should) mean better things down the road for me as a gamer. Just like the NXE. I think it's a great example of us getting great updates.
- lotrtrotk, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1KSUdesigner....
a. you are nuts
b. ever heard of a PVR?
- xxMarka, on 11/19/2008, -2/+7They use ads to keep themselves going though, Microsoft does not need ads to keep Xbox Live Gold going.
- willdelaney, on 11/19/2008, -3/+3Then where would ads go Mr. Khast?
TV? Nope you pay for that
Movies? Nope you pay for that
Games? Nope you pay for that
Magazines? Nope you pay for that
Internet? Nope you pay for that
Radio? Aha, a possible winner. Radio - "all your ads are belong to us"- Khast, on 11/19/2008, -5/+3TV...nope, don't pay for that....I wouldn't pay for 150 channels of pure crap.
Movies.... Last I checked my DVDs only have those annoying bits at the beginning, which can be skipped no prob.
Games....well...if it's done right, you shouldn't be able to tell it's an ad, from the game environment. (In most cases, nope, none of the games I have had ads in them....oh excuse me Mick and Mac for the Sega Genesis....that was a McDonald's advertisement with a crappy game inside. :P )
Magazines....don't buy them, not many are interesting
Internet...ads? I use adblock, so I haven't seen a stinking ad for a while.
Radio....ok ya got me there, but since I don't listen to the radio that often..... - willdelaney, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1Poor guy
- Khast, on 11/19/2008, -5/+3TV...nope, don't pay for that....I wouldn't pay for 150 channels of pure crap.
- CrimsonBlur, on 11/19/2008, -2/+3So because you pay for your cable service, you shouldn't have any ads? Or because you pay for a movie ticket there should be no ads or previews? Or because you pay for a magazine or newspaper there should be no ads?
I'm not saying I disagree, ads suck, but the fact is there are very few services that remove ads just because you've paid. The only thing I can think of is Websites like IGN who remove the ads if you are a subscriber, but even then it's only the ones that interrupt your page loads.
Comparing the XBOX experience with the Windows desktop doesn't really make any sense, it's a completely different platform.- Khast, on 11/19/2008, -4/+3news for you...the firmware of the XBOX IS the operating system. It is comparing oranges and oranges.
- YojanV, on 11/19/2008, -3/+2Yeah, but he said "different PLATFORM".
Quit your b!tching, ads are everywhere anyway. If you're unable to mentally skip past them, then it's not looking good for your integrating in society abilities.
- bnitro, on 11/19/2008, -2/+6The new stuff is great but the Netflix Streaming is, really, all I care about Yataaa!
- jayll, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Is that you Hiro?
- barkingfrog, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5Do you have to have a gold membership to stream netflix?
- SweetUsername, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6I'm pretty sure you do
- lipglossnerd, on 11/19/2008, -3/+1I would think as long as you had a Netflix account, it wouldn't matter what membership you have. I could be wrong though. =P
- trdrstv, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Yes.
- digghalo, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2Yes, they do require a gold membership. Which i'm PISSED about. I don't want to pay for a ***** live membership just to watch netflicks on my xbox when I can watch for free on my computer. I was excited about this, but now I'm really dissappointed. Also, 1440x900 doesn't work right on my 19" LCD. Thanks MS, you're batting .000 for what I was excited about.
- shithitinthefan, on 11/19/2008, -5/+13I'll stick with my 2600, 30 years and no RROD.
- binaryecho, on 11/19/2008, -5/+1I am dumber.
- skyteria, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Me too. Still trying to beat E.T.
- ZombieSociety, on 11/19/2008, -5/+2Like a dumbass, I installed it last week under the impression I wouldn't need to log into Xbox live until tonight.
Then Left 4 Dead comes out. *facepalm* - ATLien74, on 11/19/2008, -17/+4Everything Microsoft makes is crap, so this will just be more crap.
- eggsovereasy, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1Windows has its issues, but they did really well with the xbox.
- zealotbleeds, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2You are either a Mac zealot or a Linux user.
- KobraKommander, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1hold on now, don't lump this turd in with us Linux users...
I use Linux and give props to Microsoft for the x box 360.
btw the update is pretty cool I like the install of games to the
hard drive option as well.
- KobraKommander, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1hold on now, don't lump this turd in with us Linux users...
- Cloned, on 11/19/2008, -5/+9Goddammit. I just got the RROD over the weekend.
- misterjangles, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6Just got my 4th replacement back due to ring 'o death. it seems like it's just an annual thing to ship the thing back. at least they have the replacement program down so you don't even have to call them anymore.
- SharkyTech, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Also waiting to get mine back from repairs. Unfortunately I don't have the perfect record of my launch box anymore as ammunition in the fanboy wars.
- korvan504521, on 11/19/2008, -4/+3My xbox lasted two years before RROD, and they it fixed and back to me within a week of me calling them. Which I think is pretty good customer service.
- Tahiri, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2Mine RROD just as Fable2 came out. I called that day, took 2 weeks to just get the box.
- WhereAmI, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2Wow, you think that the fast repair for something that shouldn't even be an issue is good service? I can't wait until it gets the RRoD on you after year #3 because you're ***** then.
- BenS, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Same here. Second time. :(
- zekolas, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2Does any one know how the x-box netflix works?
I have an x-box 360 and X-box live.
My roommate has netflix membership, the one where we get 3 movies at any time.
Will I be able to use his netflix on my x-box?- EvilCan, on 11/19/2008, -1/+13Only if you can figure out how to set it up, which seems like it might be a challenge for you.
- eggsovereasy, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1If you have a gold subscription to xbox live then supposedly yes. I am looking forward to it, my 24" iMac and desk chair are pretty good, but my couch and 50" tv are better.
- misterjangles, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1The info section in the console says it works with either a gold live membership or an unlimited netflix account. sounds like you both so you should be good.
- BuffaloBlack, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2I participated in the Beta. Yes, it will work. The requirements are a netflix account with unlimited monthly rentals, which you get with the three at a time plan, and Xbox Live Gold. You will have to go to the video market place, and then to netflix. It will as for an activation code. You will be instructed where to find the code on netflix's website. Enter it. It will only take a few seconds. I have watched several movies with no problem.
- liquisoft, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1I'm looking forward mostly to the installation feature.
I'm so sick of some of the games that have loading screens (Fable 2) and how it cuts into my action. I realize the loading screen will probably still appear, but my expectation is that it will be far less of a wait. - KIERANMULLEN, on 11/19/2008, -5/+5So I can have a mii now?
- eidolontubes, on 11/19/2008, -10/+2I can think of one thing to know, xbox sucks.
- dekuscrub, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2I honestly was not very excited about the NXE until I read this article. I know what I'm doing tomorrow!
- damienv5, on 11/19/2008, -1/+111. You can't get it right after midnight :|
- FreydNot, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Have they added 5.1 AAC support for H.264 files yet? I stinks being stuck with Xvid if you want to stream 5.1 audio.
- LinuxCobra, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Are you still able to hear what you stream?
- Spoomeister, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4Why aren't there any anti-microsoft guys jumping up and down about how avatars are a total ripoff of Mii characters on the Wii?
- Shaflugi, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2Mii Toos
- erzz, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6Yah because everyone knows that Nintendo invented the electronic avatar
/sarcasm
/rolling of eyes - snoogit, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2because the people without dignity aren't up yet.
- PertetualMotion, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1does anyone know what time of day the update is released. I can't get it @ the mo
- illustrick, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4everyone copies everyone, so stop bitching damn......
- kevyn, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3if only we had netflix in the UK
- paranoidyingya, on 11/19/2008, -0/+0or in Mexico
- computershack, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2Just got it now...FOOKING HELL. Took all of 2 minutes to download. At last it looks like it's got a modern UI instead of the tellytubby offering it had before.
- djpray2k, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2Anyone know how to do the photo party? I can't seem to get it from parties.
- Dustmuffins, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1look in the marketplace for photo party.
- Dr3w, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Just turned on my system in Cali, it's live. Helluva dramatic openic.
